This beautiful piece took us on quite the design journey.
Created using an original 1846 print from New York entitled “A Map of the Open Country of a Woman’s Heart”, it depicted exactly that — a fanciful imagining of a woman’s heart, drawn as a map.
We completely adored the concept — but definitely didn’t adore some of the language! So we got to work, swapping out many of the country titles like “Land of Fickleness” and “Land of Vanity” (no thank you), to what we feel in our own hearts — like “Land of Strength” and “Region of Reckless Joy”. Some of the original wording we decided to keep — including “District of Love” and “Land of Love of Dress”— because hey, fashion will always be in our hearts ;)
